Sinus disease

by cilycoed, Jun 13, 2008 05:30AM
I recently had an MRI [Brain, for double vision and headaches] My face is swollen and I often have pain around the jaw area. The report says that I have Paranasal sinus disease, particularly sphenoid sinuses and to a lesser degree the maxilliary antra. My GP has given my an AB but it does not seem to have worked. The pain and head are still quite bad. What questions do I need to ask my GP, so that he will take this seriously? Is there anything I can do to help myself?

I am under a Haematologist, Neurologist and Rhuematologist. They are trying to figure out other issues to do with Peripheral Neuropathy [BAD] and autoimmunne [MGUS] and a few other things.

I'd appreciate any advice,
Cilycoed

If the infection isn't getting any better, then you may need a new antibiotic....Ask about sinus rinses. I do them personally because I do have chronic sinus problems...they help clear my sinuses very effectively, but definitely ask your doc first if it is right for you.
I hope this helps..Sunny

Here is a link on YouTube that describes the procedure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zYLvSMAprg

It looks worse than it really is...trust me!

I do this at least once a day whenever my sinuses are gunked up so to speak. There are many brands out there for sinus flushes/rinses. The NetiPot is very effective. Here is another link that describes some of them http://www.achooallergy.com/isotonic-vs-hypertonic.asp

I hope this helps. Sunny :)

Thanks Sunny,

I checked out http://www.achooallergy.com/isotonic-vs-hypertonic.asp, and understand what you mean. Some of the brand names are foreign to me, as I live in New Zealand.
However, my chemist will know what I mean. I will have to see the Dr this week for other things so will speak to him about another AB too. I'm not a big fan of u-tube, I'm an  'oldie!'

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.
Blessings
Cilycoed.
