Sinusitus and Mucous problems.

by karmakarmakarma, Jun 08, 2005 12:00AM
Ive suffered from sinusitis for about 2 years now, i used to have a lot of nausea and inbalance but my mum bought me this nasal allergy remedy from hongkong and it has stopped that. So basically it has gotten a lot better. THe only thing that hasnt cleared up is that i still get a lot of post nasal drip and i am coughing discoloured and gross stuff everyday! (been about 2 years). its not making me feel sick cos i usually just cough it up, but it is pretty gross doing this everyday. Ive tried all sorta of anti biotics but they dont work, so is there some other types of remedies that i could try? Ive tried garlic and horse radish tablets they do not work either.

Any suggestions would b great! or if u need to ask me any other questions about go ahead i'll be reading. thanks heaps.

The key to ending this problem is to find out the cause of it.  A sinus CT scan would help to determine if there is fluid, a chronic infection, or just inflammation as the cause of this continued drainage.  Once the cause is established, it is easier to discuss the way to proceed.

in my case post nasal drip was caused by a food allergy to wheat, gluten and soy. Since avoiding these it has gone completely (unless I deviate from the avoidance diet). Good luck.

Sorry I should have mentioned that all the allergy tests were negative (except for pollen). However my symptms are definitely related to wheat (maybe gluten) and soy. The doctor ruled our wheat ebing a problem but by good luck I found someone with similar problems who stopped the problem through avoiding wheat. I tried it and it worked for me - I later found say has a similar effect (specifically soy lecithin additive which is in many processed products). Don't give up on the allergy front just becuase the tests were negative! I guess the reaction seen in the bllod test is based on a different mechanism that what causes the mucous - and this seems to be a poorly understood by the medicos.

yes I think I've always had it. i didn't try eating wheat breakfasts until a couple of years ago and that's when it really started getting out of hand. Have noticed recently that dairy seems to give me mucouse too - yogurt and even butter in gluten free cakes. This is fairly tollerable in small doses. It's the diarea (diarrhea) from gluten that makes like tricky.
