Strange pain while breathing

On the 25th, I noticed that I started feeling as though I was going to get a cold. When I woke up monday morning, the only issue I really had was the fact that when I inhaled, there was a dull, throbbing pain - while also being short of breath. I ended up calling out of work monday and tuesday, seeing that it hadn't gotten better. Wednesday I decided to try work, but ended up having to leave early due to the pain.

So I went and saw a doctor on wednesday, but came out with no answers. She didn't know what was wrong, so she put me on an antibiotic as well as a steroid.

The day after I started taking these medicines, I noticed that the pain went from being dull - to being extremely sharp, and now I'm even more out of breath. If I walk up the stairs (leading to my apartment), by the time I get up, I feel as though I'm going to pass out because I just cannot breathe. I used to have asthma, so I've been carrying around an inhaler just to see if it would help, but it hasn't.

I have to return to work on monday, but the pain is so sharp and overwhelming, I don't know if I can lift boxes all morning. But my doctors note says I have to return that day. I don't have insurance, should I just visit the ER? The pain is getting unbearable and very constant.

Well, I have a rather large bill running up from the hospital (also have ovarian problems).

I forgot to mention that I am also sometimes having a fever. It'll jump up, then back down, and so forth. (Been keeping an eye on it for the past couple days.)

I know I have a few more days before the medicine is over, but I can barely hold a conversation without gasping - then turning into more pain.

Im not a medical doctor, but your pain is worring me! It's unfortunate that you dont have health insurance, but an er visit seems necessary! Is it possible to let them know a head of time that you don't have insurance to get some kind of discount or something.  It will truly be unfair for you to pay such a costly bill, wether they tell you your fine or not. If you need further test your billl will be extreme.  What I do suggest is that you do some research on line about insurance.  they do have some places that not insurance but they make sure you pay what your suppose to because many times the er over charges people. I think it was a non for profit place, but it is for profit because you have to pay them a certain  amount a month.  Im just throwing out ideas, because you  really need to see someone and i understand your hesisitation due to lack of insurance.  God bless and I hope a solution is found. Do you live in new york or somewhere else? If I find that info ill give it to you.
