He has to go to a physician if the symptoms are not gone by now. Often, these problems are self-limiting, however enough time has passed. Probably the coughing initiated a so-called vasovagal episode, and that can mean a momentary black-out. This drops the heart rate, and if he already has a low rate, the disorientation may last two to ten minutes. This is not a "stroke". It is common after coughing episodes and a co-factor such as anemia or a low heart rate or poor lung function due to an infection. Needless to say, your husband requires a thorough work-up by an M.D.
It sounds like a viral infection of some sort. I have had in the past similar things happen to me and after seeing a doctor, I was disagnosed with an influenza accopanied by a pneumonia.
I would urge him to go to a doctor for a thorough exam as soon as possible...he sounds sick. What is bothersome to me is the fact that he "blacked" out, he couldn't remember the episode you describe. How have his temps been? With what you describe, it wouldn't surprise me if he was running fevers on and off..and with high fevers, a person might hallucinate. I know I do....again, he really should be seen by a doctor, he could have the flu or some other type of infection causing these symptoms. Sunny
