asthma and oxycontin

could taking oxycontin with asthma cause breathing problems leading to fatal respiratory failure ?

If you are allergic to it!  I'm allergic to "coedine" and anything that is a derivative or otherwise related triggers the same response.  The anthestiologist (sp?) who did my saddle block when I had my daughter learned this the hard way -- he had to hand me my albuterol inhaler just as I was about to start pushing because my oxygen levels had plummeted (along with the baby's heart rate).  The albuterol saved me -- they slapped an oxygen mask on me and let me push her out. (This was an unusaul solution -- albuterol is contraindicated in labor 'cause it tends to stop it!)  Interestingly, when I got my file later for my allergist, this little interlude with the oxygen and albuterol was not in the progress notes!
