Is this flu?

For about a week I have experienced pain and stiffness in the back of my  neck, and a feeling of weakness in it. I also developed an earache in one ear a few days after these symptoms started, but the ear is fine now. The pain in my neck has now spread all over my back and was in my ribs, although that has got better. I feel cold all the time although I think I may have atemperature and yesterday I nearly fainted. Is this flu? Apart from the earache I haven't experienced any upper respiratory symptoms.
I've never had anything like this at all.

I have a friend who ended up with bacterial meningitis, last year, after a bout with an earache that refused to heal. She was told she will have to watch for a reoccurance from here on out. She did get ill this year and was immediately treated with antibiotics. So far she is ok.

It is impossible to tell from your message what is the cause of this problem.  It is possible this is the "flu", but could be due to other causes.  I would suggest speaking with your family doctor about these symptoms and possibly being seen.
