dry cough in 7 year old post op tonsillectomy 5 years ago

My 7 year old son has a constant dry cough that he has had since he had a tonsillectomy, adenoids removed at 2 1/2 years old.  He has recently had more sinus surgery as he still snores and leaves white patches over his sheets.  The ENT said his sinuses where bleeding and he was able to open up a few of his sinuses but was unable to go to the upper sinuses.  My son has had a constant dry cough now for 4 years and we have had him in and out of the doctors with this.  They said he had asmath and gave him antibiotics when he has bouts of the cough.  We then took him to pedatrics and he has put it down to a compulsive disorder.  He complains of an itchy throat, sinsus coming down his throat, and fizzing in his throat when he has a drink of water.  He also has had periods of night terrors over the last 4 years following the operation.  We are worried, frustrated and confused on how we can now help our son.  He is getting tired of having this and it is wearing him out emotionally and physically.  Where can we go now.

Hi,
I'm a 35 year old female. I had my tonsils removed at 25 due to constant strep throat. It helped tremendously, I get over colds very quickly without thw horrible symptoms i.e. fever, muscle pain, swelling,  breathing thru the mouth and even snoring. But I have noticed a persistent cough in both me and my mom who also had tonsilectomy at 24. Siinus headaches and nightly coughing fits due to dripping and itching ini  the throat.

I got tested for allergies including milk and came out negative. But I have tested my theory over and over about a reaction to dairy products. I don't know if it's me or the actual milk cows that are treated with chemicals but every time I consume any type of dairy product I start dripping/itching and I will surely have a coUghing fit at night.

I try to avoid milk as much as possible but some times I give in to pizza and gelatto (they r just not the same without dairy). So I treat it with decongestants and allergy medicine. But that's how I survive without my tonsils. I traded one evil for another. Not sure why but my mom suffers the same unexplained chronic cough, I should mention that we both smoked before and after the surgery,  not any more I quit after 29.

Anybody feel the same about milk or tonsilectomy?

Andrea

Thanks and very interesting that you also have a child that has a chronic dry cough and has had tonsillectomy and adenoid removal.  My son is on nasal sprays and asmath inhalers but these do not help him.  He also has been tested for reflux but was tested negative.  He also still snores at night and we where told once his tonsils where removed this would stop.  I think my next step is for allergy testing but I still believe its all related to his sinuses.

Thanks Mickey

Sorry no help here.  We have similer problem. Our 7 year old has had a chronic dry cough for 3 yrs.
We have done all the sinuses meds and asmath inhalers no help.  Had the tonsilloctomy and adenoid out 1 yr. ago, no help.  We are still on the sinus meds but I think it is for our (parents) self fulfillment, it's not working.

We are going to try acid reflux meds. next.
