low grade fever in pneumonia

by carro, Feb 10, 2002 12:00AM
My father who is 82 years old was admitted to hospital 8 days ago with pneumonia.  Since then he has had a low grade fever hovering around 37.5.  He also had a chest infection which has not cleared up.  Today he is very tired and sleeping all the time which is unusual for him.  When I questioned the nurses about him sleeping all the time they said he must have been disturbed during the night.  Is this
sleepiness usual with this illness. I find it strange as he has not been like this all week. Thank you

There are so many reasons for this increased fatigue and sleeping. This could be from the infection, from disturbances at night, other cause, as well. If this is alarming to you, I would speak directly with your father's physician and see what he/she says.
