shortness of breath

I am a healthy woman of 65.  However, about 3 weeks ago I began experiencing periodic bouts of shortness of breath, possible irregular heart beats, and a tightness in my upper chest.  As far as I know, I didn't change anything about my normal routine except to add 1,000 IUs of Vitamin D and added Darjeeling or Ceylon teas ito my usual green or more common black tea varieties.

Other than the breathing issue, I have no symptoms of asthmatic or respiratory or allergy problems and no tingling or numbness or or fever or such as that.  I don't smoke (never have) and do not have a cold or the flu.

Have you any ideas what might be causing this?

You need to go to your doctor and I hope you already have. You could have already had a heart attack. Small but did some damage. Very same thing you mentioned happend to my friend Mary across the street. Ended up a slight heart attack. They ended up putting a stint in an artery and now at 72 she is out and about running around town after a few months of rest.

Never mess around with chest pain and shortness of breath. Woman who have heart attacks do not present the same symtoms as men.  DO NOT and that is why they go unrecognized and die of heart attacks more than men.

This definitely sounds like something you need to bring up to your doctor so that he or she can run appropriate tests on you to find the cause. There are alot of causes, but your doc will be your best resource in this case.I hope that you find the answer to all of this..Sunny
