swollen glands in throat causing pain in ear on and off for weeks

by genevieve2005, Jun 30, 2005 12:00AM
I have been having a problem for 3 weeks. My glands are swelling and causing me to have pain in the back of my throat when I swallow. Also there is pain in the bottom part of my ear. I went to the doctor he said I had a virus. I was given Flonase and pheusdophedrine and advil. It went away after one week. It came back for a couple days, went away, then came back again after one week. Today I feel as though I have a lump in my throat and pain in the lower part of my ear. I am very frustrated because I do not know what is swelling and why it comes back periodically. Do you have any idea what the problem could be or who I should go see to fix this problem.
Thank you,
Genevieve

The hard part is determining the cause of the problem.  It could be a viral illness. It could be part of an ear infection or even a sinus infection, which could require a course of antibiotics.  The easier part is what to do.  I would speak to your physician again and possibly have a CT scan of your sinuses if this persists.  The specialist most qualified to deal with this is an ENT specialist.

Have you Dr. check for Mono and or Epstein Barr
I had and still have the same problem - it seems to
