Can azithromycin affect the vdrl for syphilis

I was diagnosed with gonorrhea and my doctor prescribed me azithromycin and also recommended that i have an hiv test and vdrl for syphilis. After my diagnosis I bought the medicine and took the initial two doses in one day as my doctor prescribed. The next day I went back to the hospital for both test and came back for the results the next day and they both came back negative. The tests were done 26 to 27 days from my last sexual contact. I have just finish the treatment for gonorrhea after finishing the prescribed 5 day dosage of azithromycin. After further reading on azithromycin in the internet, I stumbled upon some people saying including in this forums that taking azithromycin can affect the vdrl for syphilis. I'm starting to get worried. I didn't notice any symptoms of syphilis on me at all. So is it possible that azithromycin can affect the vdrl for syphilis?

I hope my doctor knew what he was doing. He told I could take the test within the next two days after our consultation.

some hiv tests are more accurate than others early. for details about the particular testing you had done, post about it in the hiv forum.

you have to wait another week for the azithromycin to fully work.

Thanks, I just finished the treatment and a day later a discharge showed from my penis. Is this a sign of treatment failure already? What about my HIV test was it accurate. 26-27 days from infection?

no, it's not an issue though syphilis testing isn't accurate until at least 6 weeks post encounter.

we don't typically still treat gonorrhea with azithromycin at this point. make sure you follow up in a month with a repeat gonorrhea test to make sure you cleared the infection.
