Chlamydia Treatment

I was tested at a planned parenthood for STD's when they did my pap. It came back positive for Chlamydia. I have been treated for this now 4 times, have not had sex in a year with my fiance and my test continues to come back positive. I have been treated with the doxycycline everytime because the other medication I am unable to take due to allergies. Are there any other treatments other than the doxycycline and azithromyacine?

Alternates to doxycycline are various flouroquinalone antibiotics like Ofloxacin and Levofloxcian. These are effective against chlamydia and should be tolerated by your allergies. Not having insurance can be tough, but these antibiotics should be equally priced to doxy.

Specifically I am allergic to penicillin which is why I cannot take the azithromyacin. I have done the deoxycycline treatments 5 times and have abstained from sex until each retest and it still comes back positive. They said because it has come back positive so many times that it's not a false positive and it's really starting to scare me. Also, my fiance has  been tested and he comes back clean every time. I'm just at a loss because I can't afford anything except for Planned Parenthood because I don't have insurance.

Sure, there are lots of antibiotics.  If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin.  And if doxycycline doesn't work, there's probably no used in taking tetracycline.  So that does eliminate a lot of them.  If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain.  It's not typical, but it does happen.

So the other major class of antibiotics you could consider is fluoroquinolones.  A particularly strong one is moxifloxacin (Avelox is the brand name).  It's not usually prescribed for this treatment but in your case it might make sense.  There are also more common fluoroquinolones like Levofloxacin (Levaquin brand name), which might work but are not quite as active against chlamydia.

But as Brianbear said, we'd have to know what you're allergic to in order to really say what you might be able to take.

Good luck with everything.

What types of medications are you allergic to? Specifically.

Is that possible? I thought it can be cured unless transmitted sexually.
