NON GONOCCAL NSU QUERY

Two weeks after having vaginal sex during which the condom I was using came off I suddenly began to experience a mild burning sensation in the urethral opening of my penis not just when urinating but all the time. In addition to this burning there was a slight inflammation of the urethral opening but no discharge. I visited my doctor who tested for urinary tract infection, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea all which came back negative. Diagnosing probable Non Gono NSU he prescribed me an 8 day course of Doxycycline  1 X 100mg per day. My question is that since I have started the course the mild burning  sensation in my urethra has increased significantly with today  being day 4 at times  almost unbearable, like someone pouring acid into my penis. Is this the medicine fighting the bacteria in the principle of no gain without pain? I am a bit worried about it and would like to hear any advice.

Thanks for your comment Grace I took your advice and went to my local sexual health clinic where I was examined, had a probe inserted into my urethra to take a sample and the urine tests were repeated. Whilst there I mentioned to the nurse that the inside of my urethral opening on the right hand side looked a little inflamed, her reply was that it looked normal. I should have insisted that a doctor look at me as it certainly didn't feel normal but it did feel better than it had done so I accepted her opinion. All this was last wednesday 24th Nov. I got my tests back yesterday 1st Nov which were all normal. During the last week since I went to the clinic the inflamed area inside my urethra has developed into a slightly raised purpleish/reddish sore/swollen area more purple towards the centre about half the size of a pin head positioned about 3-4mm inside the opening. I think the left side of the urethral opening  is now becoming inflamed too. The discomfort varies from almost unnoticeable for a few days to being extremely painful and then calms down again. When the pain is at its greatest I seem to get lower back pain too. The pain can come and go quite quickly. I am off to see my doctor again and I will ask him to refer me to a urologist. My main concern now is that I have penile or urethral cancer, in fact I am very worried about it. My only symptoms are as I have described. Does this sound like either of those cancers? Why do you think the pain comes and goes? Surely if I did have a cancer the pain would be constant? If it was a cancer of this nature  are there any other symptoms that would be indicative? Perhaps you can suggest another illness.  Thanks very much for any advice you can give.

you need to go back and be seen again today. if your regular clinic doesn't have weekend appointments available, go to your local ER or a walk in clinic for further testing.

doxy should be 2x/day, not once daily.
