Probably not. Unfortunately it's not that easy to culture from urine, esp in males.
I suppose in your case the self treatment might be the better way, though I hate saying that.
And antibiotics are OTC? What a terrible idea. No wonder so many of the drug resistant strains of STDs come from that area. I'm not saying you are misusing them, I'm just thinking that a lot of people probably are.
Remember Trich is specific antibiotics, Flagyl or Tindamax.
StillHurting,
I think sadly, you are correct. Everything I have read indicates that finding Trich, is a punt. If you have read my story, I had one doc tell me after looking at a swab sample that I had chlamydia. If he based that on white blood cells... well, I also read that trich is often times mistaken for white blood cells.
I also tested VERY negative for Chlamydia at other locations. (PCR neg. for Chlam too.)
Hunting for Trich seems to be a ghost hunt...
I also read that trich is a tolerable condition, and many time folks mistakenly think they have gotten over it without any medications and just move on.... I think I am near that point & I don't want that to happen. I also read that the uthritis is mild along with slight to no discharge... that would also describe me. I also read that trich is well known to invade the prostate.
I purchased some Tinidazole, the pharmacist suggested 2 grams x 5 days. The pills cost me about 3 dollars US.
As you know the rec. dosage is a 2gram single dose...
But sadly, it is also recommended dose for prostatitis is 1 gram X 28 days
I really don't want to use this stuff that long.
1) I don't know if I even have Trich
2) I don't even know if I even have prostate issues
3) I am just so stinking confused and full of self doubt right now....
Right now I am on the road, & I don't want to take the drug while I am on the road in case of diareah issues. I plan on takeing it tomorrow.
StillHurting, what is your story, I think you came down with trich, were your easily cured, was there any prostate involvement? Did you get it through vaginal or oral, or possible both. Do you believe that it can be transmitted orally?
No I have never had Trich, I did have a DNA probe test for it though. So I can't comment on treatment for that from a personal level.
Orally, you know I have never even read anything indicating that. My guess is that it then must be very uncommon, much less so than even something like gonorrhea which is not common, but definitely happens.
Do post back if you take anything, what you took, and if it seemed to work though.
