Worried father

Hi Doctor,

There is a question in my mind that's bothering me a lot with regards to my young boy's (1 year 4 months old) health.

I was dianosed to have infected by Gonorrhea 3 days ago and got treatment right away with 1 time oral Cedax and Doxycycline x 7 days.  Coincidentally, since 3 days ago, my son was having low temperature fever and his appetite dropped a lot.  I suspect that his appetite was affected due to a sore throat since he's not accepting milk and drinking only 50% of his normal consumption.

My worry is, if it's at all possible that bateria on my hand hand could have spread the disease to him by feeding him food or if he's been walking around at home and touched e.g. the toilet seat and put the fingers to his mouth to catch the disease?

Thanks in advance for your help

your wife can be tested for gonorrhea. It's urine testing and can be done even while she has her period. You both should also pursue full std screening, including herpes testing to properly cover your bases.

did either of you recently have another partner?

the antibiotic you were given is ok for gonorrhea but not the preferred antibiotic to use. Cover your bases and retest in a few months just to be sure.

I can't give medication advice, I am not a Dr. Nor can anyone in this free forum. You can pay to ask a Dr in the Expert forum if you want.

Thanks a lot Vance, one last question.

I took both my child and my wife to see doctor yesterday.  Doctor stated clearly that my boy is unlikely to catch anything from me though my described channel.  However my wife is in her period and was unable to do any test for her.  She did not show any symptoms of Gonorrhea (I learnt that many female aren't likely to have symptoms if they got infected), and got prescribed for Cephalexin 500mg daily x 5 days.  Is this medicine/ dosage enough to cure Gonorrhea if she's infected?

Sorry for so many question as I'm from Hong Kong and the medication system here is quite different from the US.

Thanks!
