should i worry

Hi my boyfriend of 31/2yrs just recently broke out with a "dot" or "lesion" on his penis where the foreskin covers..it's been about three weeks. see we had unprotected sex on the 7th of december and he noticed it the morning of the 8th which he claims it was not there before. he says it doesn't hurt and it has not gotten any bigger but it does change color. sometimes it will be his skin color and other times, like last night after having sex..it was red.. he's really worried and now i am too.. i haven't been unfaithful and i don't think he has either...could it have been something on the sheets..we did stay at a hotel? please help

you can't catch any STDs from sheets of a hotel room. Usually only a dot don't sound like herpes, but it might be warts, which will clear out on its own. Try protected sex until it's examined by health care professional.

Hi there -

This sounds like it could be folliculitis, but you should really get it checked.

Why are you embarassed?  Think of your genitals as just another body part, which to a doc, they are.

Its no different than your elbow or foot.

RAY317 -----PLEASE READ-----

Rest Easy Ray I am almost sure that your bump is a direct result of your shaving and is folliculitis.

(Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing, blockage of the follicle, or shaving. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph).

Barber's itch is a staph infection of the hair follicles in the beard area of the face, usually the upper lip. Shaving aggravates the condition. Tinea barbae is similar to barber's itch, but the infection is caused by a fungus.

--------------PERSONAL EXPERIENCE------
I just went to the doctor because of it. Back in Feb 08 I was shaving my pubic hair, (using a Mach 3 razor) and like two days later I developed not one but two bumps. after about one week only one of the bumps went down/ the other seemed was in it for the long haul. I don't need to tell you how that begins to mess with a guys head. (Especially a 30yr who is sexually active)
I like you was desperate, tried popping it, then using  Neosporin /
Barc (Treats razor bumps)  with no luck.

Finally last week sometime I gave in &  picked up the phone and called my Dermatologist Something I should have done from the very start)
I told the receptionist that I need to make an appointment, when she asked what for,  I said it was personal, she inquired more and I said it was because of a rash.....

Once I was there I told him what was up, about my shaving and he could tell that I was a little uneasy, Mind you this is a man who I have been to numerous times over the last 8 years, and I was still nervous.
He put on these special glasses, gave me a local numbing shot right in the area.. a LITTLE ***** (excuse the pun)  and then he began to squeeze and he said that it was like a cyst. he said it was okay and continued to squeeze (Like you would squeeze a pimple on your face, you want to make sure to get the core of it out) so after a couple of hard squeezes mind you I didn't feel a thing he got it out. Gave me some this ointment to put on it, prescribed me 100mg dicloxacillin and that was it.

------ADVICE--------
So listen Ray if you havent already called the doctor, do so. I would suggest calling the Dermatologist your primary doctor, only because they are more equipped to handle things right on the spot. your primary might prescribe you some ointment first to see if it goes down ,but lets both be real, youv'e been there done that, It need to go! Like now
Your dermatologist can take care of that.

Hope my experience & advice finds & helps you!

Best of luck bro....

Jason
