hello doctor the reason i'm posting here is because if exposed to somthing the woman has been over-seas and was married to a army person at one time.my problem is i have no symtoms(discharge or burning) just uncomfort at times in the ureatha and a slight itch around head of penis sometimes.i have had std test and it came back neg.the clymidia and gonorrhea was done by urine syphliss by blood.and since i paniced i've had these test more than once, now heres where it gets confusing this happened in the summer of 08, now i have a little ache in right testicle mild not severe. i also was found to have hernia(not from std) on the right side in pubic area. could hernia cause testicle pain? i thought i was safe from the std scare and moved on in new relationship and she showed no signs of anything untill recently having trouble when she urinates said not burning but pressure when she goes. now i'm a older gentlemen(50ish) and not very educated on stds and i don't know if i'm exposed to something or not.i would just die if i have exposed my new partner to something. i trusted in the test results and thought maybe just getting older or could this other woman have brought something from over seas

Good Morning Mart

I think the tests - especially since you have said that you have repeated them a few times, will be accurate and will have established that you do not have an STD.

However, it is possible to have other infections in the urethra - the tube you pass urine through - which might cause irritation and discomfort. These tend to be relatively innocent although uncomfortable. They can sometimes be identifed by urine testing although more often we need penile swabs I'm afraid.

Your female partner may have symptoms because of one or other of
1) you may have passed some innocent bacteria which has caused similar symptoms
2) she may just have a mechanical cystitis which has occurred because she is haing sex with a new partner.

Either way she should be checked out.

Hernia's may certainly cause testicular discomfort / pain.

I would suggest you both visit your family doctors. You may need a course of anibiotics - say doxycycline with ciprofloxacin - discuss with your doctor.

Best wishes, Sean
