Receiving Oral Sex and HPV?

Hi I am a male, 30 years old.

My ex girlfriend was diagnosed with HPV and later on with cervical cancer. We never had genital-genital sex ever. She performed only once for a minute or so an unprotected oral sex on me. I never performed oral sex on her. We kissed several times, as generally couples do.

Although I believe that she had infection in genital area, websites and many articles on internet scared me that there is a possibility that one could acquire HPV by oral sex with someone with HPV.

You suggested in your post http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/HPV-and-mouth-to-mouth-contact/show/671611
And for practical purposes, nobody ever catches the genital types of HPV from someone's mouth, either by kissing or oral sex.

Here is my question;

Am I at risk of acquiring an HPV by receiving an oral sex from someone who is diagnosed with HPV and later on with cervical cancer?

I noticed some growth, almost like embossed veins on my penis, three or four very small lines radiating from a major vain with a little, tiny colourless painless pimple, and I am worried that this could be something more serious! As there is no specific test for HPV in the UK I am really worried how to figure it out and where to go and get a clear perspective on my question.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Thank you
Dave

We do PCR tests for HPV in our clinic in London.  The sample can be taken from any part of body where there are concerns: vagina, penis, anus, mouth, etc.  You can have a look in our website for further information:  www.freedomhealth.co.uk

Hello, Dave!
First of all, try not to panic!  Penile cancer is extremely rare and if you are worried about anything unusual on your penis, an experienced doctor should have a look at it and advice you accordingly.  If in doubt, one can always take a small sample to have it tested.
Secondly, the only way you could have contracted HPV on your penis is through penetrative vaginal intercourse, preferably unprotected.  Through oral sex would be if you had performed oral sex on your girlfriend and this would be HPV in the mouth, not on your penis.  Also the fact that your girlfriend has HPV in her vagina does not automatically mean that she would also have it in her mouth.
If you need some reassurance, we certainly offer a PCR test for HPV, which can be done on your penis using a simple brush or a swab.  We test for the 20 most common subtypes of HPV and this way we could advice you further.
Best wisehs,
Jose
