Cause of BFP Syphilis EIA

Hi,

I had few high risk exposures in the past but tested for HIV and RPR/VDRL before marriage and so did my partner. I was separated from my partner last year and now we decided to reunite. She and I decided to rest again as I had a few encounters since we separated. I tested for HIV 4 times since my last encounter about 8 months back with 4th gen and it was negative and so was everything else.

But Syphilis came EIA positive RPR neg and TPPA neg twice over a gap of 2 weeks

Could this have any implications of undetected HIV? My CRP went high to 7 recently and my neutrophils are 9.5 this month but was normal last month.

Can you please help me understand the cause of Syphilis result?

Are they investigating why your other results are abnormal?

You don't have syphilis - your RPR and TPPA are negative. The testing algorithm worked for you. It's designed to find false positives.

I don't know what's happening in your body. A high CRP means you have inflammation somewhere in your body, and while a high neutrophil count most often means a bacterial infection, it can also react to inflammation, stress, etc.

Continue to work with your doctors to find the cause, but it isn't syphilis. There are some reasons for false positives - autoimmune disorders can sometimes cause those.

Good luck to you.

To be clear, you do not have HIV as you tested negative 4 times. Please tell us what your exposures are to begin with.
