Is Coccobacilli a type of STD??

Posted this on another forum but was referred to this community.. need help urgently..
A night of excessive drinking resulted in unprotected sex. 3-4 days later, I noticed white/yellowish lumpy discharge. It wasn't too bad but I went to see the gynecologist. My results read
WBC-BACH +#/HPF HIGH
EPITHELIAL CELLS +#/HPF HIGH
Coccobacilli + HIGH.

I was prescribed Doxycycline 100mg, FLAGYL 250MG and Saforelle solution.

1. Is coccobacilli a form of STD?
2. Would my partner be carrying this bacteria and not knowingly passed it along to me? Should he also see the doctor? (I am F)
3. Is this virus common and are the above prescriptions adequate?

I am in a foreign country and the doctor did not explain the cause and preventive measures for me in detail and I am now a little worried.

Those meds will do the trick.  :)

Sounds like its bacterial vaginitis.  That just means that normal bacteria that live in the vagina overgrew and caused this.

thank you! this really helps.. there are a couple of threads on Coccobacilli but it wasn't clear enough whether this bacteria is a type of STD or not.
Looking at my prescriptions again, I see the diagnosis is vaginitis and the lab test result for CHLAMYDIA (Q-Test) is negative...
How did I get this Coccobacilli in this case? I guess it's not through intercourse??
I was prescribed 1 week of Doxy twice a day and Flagyl tabs 3 times a day.

Your answer is appreciated!

Hi there -

Coccobacilli are a type of bacteria.  It just means rod shaped bacteria.  Chlamydia is a coccobacilli, but it doesn't look as though they determined what specific bacteria it was.  Bacterial vaginosis is also caused by coccobacilli.

Your partner should be tested for stds, and you might find out more that way.

How many days and how often are you taking the doxy and flagyl?   Doxy can cure chlamydia and flagyl can cure bv, but it depends on the dose.
