What happens to untreated STDs?

I have asked a few questions...now to one that is bugging me.  My wife had an affair 3-years ago (I just found out a few months ago).  We now both have genital herpes (thank you very much).  She has now tested negative for gonorrhea (urine), chlamydia (urine), HPV (vaginal swab), HIV (cheek swab), and syphilis (not sure how that one was tested).

She has been working out a timeline for me to understand when things happened.  From what I can tell, shortly after the first encounter (about a month) she started having really bad periods.  6-months of this and the Dr performed an ablation.  Beginning about the same time, I began to develop symptoms of epididymitis.  My urologist was worried about STDs but I assured him I was married and had not cheated (never thought my wife would have).  This ultimately resulted in an epididyectomy about a year later (after rupturing both testicles).

Over the last year I have had a number of herpes breakouts (just thought they were really bad jock itch or poison ivy issues).  Have had a LOT of lower back pain, leg neuropathy, and muscle/joint pain.  I guess my question is that given her ablation and my epididymitis, it is possible we had an STD and went undiagnosed and untreated.  If this is the case, what are the possible outcomes?  How do we look into this further?  What should I do to put my fears to rest about this?  Are there tests for this (if it has gone systemic)???

I have had a LOT of bloodwork done in the last year trying to understand what has been going on with my body (pain, fatigue, muscle cramps, muscle pain, joint pain, edema, hair loss, foggy thinking, general flushed appearance, etc).  Is there something I can look at (white bloodcell count)???

you don't have gonorrhea or chlamydia that went systemic. the infections would've cleared on their own even without treatment.   If your wife had acquired them 3 years ago and given them to you around that time, your symptoms would've been then and the infection gone.

we typically test for gonorrhea, chlamydia and trich with urine testing.  No real reason to test for them at this point from a possible infection 3 years ago especially with your wife testing negative.

I talked with my urologist.  He said there is no need.  If I had something "I would know"...  This is the third Dr who said something like this.  I realize I am most likely not in danger.  But, I would prefer to know for sure.

How do they test gonorrhea and chlamydia that may have gone systemic?  Again, I realize very remote possibility...but, given my recent health issues (they still haven't figured out exactly what is going on) I want to have them look.  Is it a blood test?  What do they look for?
