is it good to start a treatment just after exposure?

2 days ago, I had sex with a new partner and during intercourse the condom broke.

we stopped immediately and washed our genitals area.

then the day after we went to hospital together: we did HIV test which came back negative for both of us...and the doctor gave us a shot of rocephin and 7 days course of doxycicline as preventive treatment.

my question: was it good to start such treatment immediately and shoud we have to wait first for any symptoms before starting treatment?

if you were negative prior to this relationship and your partner tests and is negative, no reason for more testing.

Ok thanks for the information.
A last question...after this condom accident when should we do a full std screening again to be peace if mind?

gardsil shots help to protect against the 4 most common types of genital hpv infections. certainly if your provider hasn't mentioned them to you ( or your partner ), google them, read up on them and talk to your provider about them.

if your partner hasn't had full std testing, they should properly cover their bases so you know if you have to worry or not in the future.

No..i did 3 months ago all the tests include herpes...but not my partner that is  why we keep using condom.
So we went to see doc because of condom break.
What is gardasil shot...you scare me.
What else should we do?
Do we have to see the doc again.

unfortunately the reason they do that is because most folks will not follow up for treatment and it saves them having to track you down and call you over and over again to get you to come back to clinic if you do test + for a std.  It's not good practice due to the side effects of antibiotics as well as the increasing resistance to antibiotics.

have you both fully covered your std testing bases? did it include herpes testing? was your testing all done at least 3 months from the last time you had other partners too?

have you both had your gardasil shot series?

Thanks for your comment....i just follow the doctor....but i was thinking it was a srandard procedure.
But i agree with you...after hindsight it doesnt make sense to treat so fast.
On one hand the vih test was a good thing...as the result was neg for both of us, the doc ssid no need any treatment.
But for other std the treat immediately.

I see no reason for preventative treatment for gonorrhea and chlamydia. Personally I see it as a waste of time. money, resources and taking medication without an infection helps the body become more tolorant to that medication. But you have the treatment so no reason to worry.
