Herpes and HIV

Hi,

I got Herpes from sex with a girl about 4 weeks ago, although I used a condom the Herpes was passed through the skin contact. I got HIV tested a few days ago and it came back negative at this time.
But I think she also has HIV, what is the chance that HIV also passed with the Herpes? Has this ever happened with just skin contact? I feel so stupid, I always thought condom would protect against STD's, but I hot Herpes... so sad... I will get tested in 2 months time again for HIV.
Is there any chance?

Thanks, Adam

Hi Adam, HIV does not spread by skin contact but Herpes can. If you used a condom then u need not worry at all about HIV infection; just worry about the Herpes infection!

And, be careful during a herpes outbreak, because for the duration of the outbreak your chances of acquiring HIV increase by 5-6 times as compared to the chances of a normal person with no outbreak.

Another note: condoms do protect against STDs, but you need to understand that Herpes has several different types, Simplex (HSV-1, HSV-2) and Zoster. Herpes Simplex can occur in two places, upper body or in genital area. Zoster only occurs in Upper body. Also simplex outbreak re-occur but Zoster is generally a one time affair.

So the girl you had sex with must have had Simplex outbreak in upper body to have passed you the infection.

Hope this helps!
