if you are concerned, see your provider.
sounds like you are spending far too much time going over your body with the proverbial fine tooth comb and taking more notice than needed to everything?
One more follow up.
I notice a small red sore/bump on the inside of my cheek. It's oval in shape and about 2-4 millimeters by 3-5 millimeters in diameter. It looks like a blood vessel worked it's way to the surface. It's basically hard and dark dark red.
I know you guys can't diagnose something like syphilis based on a description or picture but I was just wondering if that sounds what a chancre might look like. I bite the inside of my cheek at times and I think it could be from that but was just wondering if that seems like a likely symptom of an STD.
Thanks again so much and sorry to keep asking questions.
We commoly don't advise on testing for a single episode of oral sex. We do recommend testing every year for sexually active people.
Very helpful thank you.
I don't mean any disrespect to JessyJames by reiterating this question. But I was just wondering if you agree that there is no need for me to test about the above encounter considering that I'm going to be having unprotected sex with a committed partner. That oral sex encounter was my only sexual contact after testing in good health for all STDs so it would be the only thing that could have led to contraction of an infection
every male and female under the age of 28 should have their gardasil shots! There are just as many cases of anal cancer as their are cervical cancer in both gay and straight males so it's important to protect yourself and your partners!
we don't have commercially available tests for hpv for males.
correct, ngu is from receiving oral sex.
I haven't had gardasil shots. Should I? Should I be tested for HPV? In all honesty, this is not behaviour that I plan to continue engaging in. I'm starting a monogamous relationship with a woman and won't be having oral sex with strangers anymore.
Do I understand correctly that NGU can be acquired by receiving fellatio but not performing it?
Thanks again
no you would not.
odds are this looked red because you were performing oral sex on it.
if you are meeting strangers for any sort of intimate contact and want to protect yourself, you should only be having protected sex and oral sex with them. Trust no one is always a good mantra for sex and your #1 concern is your own safety! Protected oral sex also protects you from ngu which if you spend any time on the forum you'll quickly see that that is an ongoing issue for many of our male posters.
have you had your gardasil shots too?
grace
Just as a follow up. If I was somehow infected from that exposure, would I be able to pass either of the 3 possible STIs without performing oral sex on someone?
I'm grateful for your help.
I'll only test if symptoms appear.
Hi
I WOULD say that the risk was low enough so to say testing for syphilis isn't necessary.
That you didn't get a good look at it, and from what you wrote --this doesn't change my mind.
Thanks for the response :)
Would you say low enough risk that testing isn't necessary? Does the fact that I didn't get a good look at whatever it was change this at all in your mind?
In the hypothetical situation that it was a syphilis chancre I guess it would be very easily and likely transmitted?
Thanks again for dealing with my paranoid questions.
Hello
That you PERFORMED oral sex on a man was a low risk encounter. Thus you were at low risk for oral herpes, and syphilis. It doesn't sound like the bump was an active herpes lesion. Yes, both those STDs are slightly more prevalent in the homosexual community but you describe a low risk encounter.
