Mycoplasma infection, again

Hello, i'm new here. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.
-I've had two diagnoses of non-specific urethritis following unprotected sex with my 3-year partner. Both times i've been treated with Suprax and Cipro. No signs of any chlam, gono or hepatitis, hiv etc.
-The third time, I asked that I be tested for mycoplasma. Finally the results showed that mycoplasma was to blame as it was the only positive result. I've been given erythromycin and all symptoms disappeared.
-I asked that my girlfriend consult with her gynecologist. He said mycoplasma is normal in women but refused she be treated with erythromycin. He gave her Suprax instead.
-We had unprotected sex again last week and now I'm showing symptoms again (frequent peeing, burning, and im sure the discharges will follow tomorrow).

Question is this: should my girlfriend be treated with erythromycin because she also tested positive for mycoplasma (according to gyno, that's normal). If not, will i perpetually be reinfected? It's bad enough that I have to seek medical help every time we'll try and conceive. What's the solution?

Actually, test for Mycoplasma do exist and they seem to be quite reliable.

I've had them done in Croatia.
The only thing they stopped testing for were Anaerobe because I was told it was pointless to test for them due to the nature of the bacteria.

If you seriously suspect your gf keeps reinfecting you, then sit down and have a talk with her.
Discuss the situation and try to persuade her to use condoms/protection for the time being until you can find someone who can test her for MycoPlasma and treat her with the medication they gave you.

I don't understand why they refuse to use erythromycin on women for it.
Evidently your symptoms keep showing up after having unprotected sex with her.

I've had the same exact problem for a year now. I get treated and symptoms go away. It always comes back within a few days after sex with wife. All std tests negative over and over. I've seen several doctors and none will do the mycoplasma tests.
Matariel have you had any success, please let us know how you are doing

you won't keep getting infected over and over like this.

plenty of terrific posts by the std experts here on medhelp on mycoplasma that do a good job of explaining how being + for it on testing, typically doesn't mean it's the cause of your symptoms. worth searching through the archives on their forum for more info.

Thank you for answering!
Im not sure I understand part of your answer ("it's not likely that it's the cause of your symptoms now").
I'Ve had 3 (now 4) infections in 5 months and consulted on all three (soon 4) occasions. No kidney stones or bladder infection as I've had ultrasound done. I'Ve had my urine tested, bacteria culture, swabs, blood tests each time. Everything came out negative on my side and my girlfriend too (chlam, gono, hiv, herpes, hepatitis, blood test, stones etc etc). except mycoplasma both with me and with her on the third time, as I wasnt tested the first two times for it. I've been treated for mycoplasma with erythromycin, but not her. We had unprotected sex last week and the symptoms showed up again.

So basically there's nothing i can do? she'll have the mycoplasma for perpetuity and i'll keep getting infected? :( Thanks!

we typically don't treat for mycoplasma.  honestly it's not likely that it's the cause of your symptoms now - you probably have had it for awhile and was coincidence that it was found from the testing.

I'd continue to follow up regularly with the urologist. I'd also only have protected sex at this point to protect yourself from symptoms too.
