Hello, thank you for taking the time to help/read my issue.
I am 58. I have been married for almost 30 years. We share a loving monogomous relationship. Back in February I quit taking the Clymara Pro patch. 2 weeks later, I developed abruptly a burning, itching, on fire feeling vaginally. I hurried to the store for products to aid in getting rid of a yeast infection. I went to the Dr. right away, this will be Dr. #1, I was out of town so went into a walk in clinic. With no examination, he gave me diflucan and Arithromycin to treat yeast. The discharge worsened, redness, swelling, and burning with a yellowish, puss like consistency as time went on. I then tried to see my GYN, but she abruptly retired. I saw her associate (Dr. #2). she took a swab, and put me on clyndamicin. Swab came back negative for yeast. New round of meds did not work. I went back to see her and she suggested a D&C with historoscopy. We did that May 8, 2013. Nothing abnormal except that my cervix was beet red and inflamed. Sexual relations were impossible due to the extreme pain since Feb. I noticed even after the D&C I still had the yellowing discharge along with the bleeding from the procedure. I called back in 2 weeks to say the discharge did not stop, but I was not experiencing pain, except with intercourse, which due to my screams was abruptly halted. She said to use alot of lubricant, empty the bowels, or practice a different form of sex other than intercouse. What??? She then ordered Doxycylin. upon finishing that, I had 4 days relief! then the same scenario repeated itself 1 weeks ago with a vengeance. I went to the local ER who put me in touch with a specialist. He got me in right away. Upon inspection he was very sorry for me due to the state my genitals were in. I didnt know it, but he took a swab. 3 days later they said it tested positive for Trich!! he asked me to come in immediately, which I did. His wet culture showed no Trich, none at all. He did it again, still nothing. 3rd swab has been sent to the lab that sent the first report. As a precaution he put my husband and myself on Metrozinale (spelling ?). We have finished that regiment. My husband had no signs at all, no discomfort, nothing. I understand that is not unusual. Today, I have some slight burning but no discharge. so all in all, I have been diagnosed with BV, chronic yeast infections, Trich, and a terrible hormone imbalance. This brings me to my question, I know in my heart it is not Trich, so, can the fact that I abruptly ended my HRT cause such an imbalance to this end? I am taking acidophulus faithfully. I have never been subjected to Herpes of the genitals, nor one night stands. NO one but my husband in the last 30 years. He swears the same. Of couse, he being a man, might have strayed, but I seriously doubt it. What are your thoughts since none of my team of Dr's seems to know exactly what to do for me.
D- pressed.
I'm confused as to why the d&c? did you have any testing done or did they just do it?
are they testing you for bv each time you are seen? it's far more common in post menopausal women than yeast is.
at this point, follow up monthly as needed with a gyn. hard to find one you trust when all this is going on but ask your female friends to recommend one.
you can have false positive trich tests. there are also naturally occurring types of trich that colonize our bowels that can cause a false positive on the cervical swabs due to our anatomy.
you also should have a biopsy done of your skin too. find out if it's all irritation going on or just what.
have they given you topical estrogen to use in the genital/vaginal area too?
