Confusion on symptoms and medication use prior to testing

Really can’t be explained in short but I’ll try. (34 male)

Have a history of prostate problems and when I noticed some slight recurring irritation went to go see the doctor and got a Rx for Cipro (28 days).

While on the medication I stepped outside of my monogamous relationship and had unprotected vaginal sex with a co-worker. Instantly I felt irritation afterwards but chalked it up to guilt (Did not urinate afterwards, washed up with hand soap, and returned to work). About a week later experienced abdomen pains at work to the point I thought I was passing a kidney stone. Went to the doctor the next day and took a sti test and UA dipstick. All tests came back negative and I was told i had bladder inflammation and to continue the cipro until completed. I didn’t tell the doctor that I cheated on my girlfriend but did tell him I had unprotected sex... i think the guilt and embarrassment was so bad that I was lying to everyone including myself. The co-worker told me that she has had multiple STI screenings and does not have an STI to her knowledge.

After the negative STI results my girlfriend and I had unprotected sex.... yes horrible of me but I felt with a clean bill of health I could put it in the past and move forward.

So finished the cipro and pains started to return. Instead of going to the doctor I had a past Rx for cipro that I (foolishly) took on my own to help with possible prostate symptoms. During this time the discomfort subsided but did not fully go away.

** In the mean time of panicking and stressing I had an ultrasound on the abdominal and they “found” a 2.5cm cystic mass which lead to a CT of both abdominal and pelvic and nothing was discovered- no mass and no enlarged prostate.

The urethra pain then returned much worse with chills to the point I went to an ER clinic and they ran a UA tests for an UTI and discovered that i was high for Nitrites. The doctor was rude and bedside manner was sub par at best. I asked about the previous STI test and cipro use- in which he said he was not concerned about a false negative. He also didn’t tell me anything other than high nitrites (nothing about WBC) and gave me Macrobid.

My mom a physician (and knows of my experience with my co-worker) asked if the ER did a culture or sensitivity tests. I eventually called back and asked for such test... the crappy doctor laughed but said he would do them.

After my ER visit the chills and crappy feeling returned and I called my doctor at 5:45 am and confessed all my recent sins and he told me to come in on the following morning. He took an UA to do another culture and reported that he was not worried about an STI. He reported that everything came back negative in the past. I re explained the cipro use when the tests were taken and then positive nitrate test in the last 24 hours. He basically told me that it was an UTI and that I either needed to learn from my mistake or confess. Also found out I have Flu Type A.

During this time my girlfriend had a acute stomach bug and due to a “bug” going around labs were done and her labs showed WBC elevated in her blood work. She was prescribed Azithromycin (500mg a day for 3 days).

As I try to wait for my cultures to come back I’m stuck with many questions that the internet is only causing more stress. (I know it’s hard to answer them 100%)

1. Do I have an STI?... no urethral discharge but urethral irritation brought on by frequent urination. I do have pain in lower back, abdominal discomfort, pain with ejaculation,  and pain in the testes that come and go (a lot of the symptoms come and go).
2. Are my STI screenings valid if I was on and towards the end of my 28 day cipro treatment?
3. Would being on cipro and continued use of cipro (500mg twice daily) for a week after exposure decrease the chance of getting an STI?
4. Will my cultures be valid if I was not on cipro for 4 days (first culture) and off cipro for 6 days but on Macrobid for 1 day?
5. Can all of this be explained by stress/anxiety/loss of sleep, the flu, or my past diagnosis of prostatitis?

I know I’m stuck with a situation and have a choice I need to make but.... until I make that decision to either learn from my mistakes and move forward; or confess my sins I’d appreciate some info on the questions I have.

Thank you.

Bottom line is that your tests came back negative  but if you dont trust the tests then re-test for the below for unprotected vaginal sex.
1. gono and chlamydia---7 days post exposure
2. syphilis----6 weeks
3. Hiv--28 days with the duo test.
4. herpes---3 months

The Macrobid isn’t seeming to work and both cultures came back negyfor growth. I read somewhere that gono won’t grow on a natural culture, is that true? The doctor is chalking this up to cystitis. But idk if I’m on bird with that....
