Post-NGU pain during urination

About two and a half weeks ago I noticed that I had symptoms of NGU including discharge. I got tested immediately and was indeed positive with NGU, the doctor said he wasn't clear on what the cause was. I received a shot and a prescription for one week of doxycycline, which I took faithfully. The discharge went away immediately and a week ago I called my doctor who told me I could have sex again and that any sensitivity was normal. I decided to wait it out, but the sensitivity in my penis (urethra) has become more and more noticeable until it now quite painful and making me feel urinary urgency. I've been drinking lots of water and tea and taking cranberry supplements, but the discomfort is still there. Is it possible that this is simply the disease passing out of my system? or is it the sign of something more serious? what are the rates of persistent NGU? What other advice can you give me?

I would appreciate any responses, thanks so much for your time!

Definitely follow up with your doctor.  this happens with a lot of guys who contract NGU and no one is really sure why and none of us have been able to find any relief.  It may be residual inflammation that will take a bit of time to go away or it could be persistent and require retreatment with another antibiotic

I seen 20% thrown around as a rate of persistent NGU.  How acurate is this?  Who knows.  The important thing is you need to follow up and get checked out for signs on continuing infection.  Hopefully there are not signs of infection and it's just residual.  Please let us know what you find out when you're tested again.  This is a problem that plagues many of us.

symptoms can persist for a couple of weeks but if they are getting worse then you need to follow up with your doctor. did you test for anything else?
