I still don't understand whether you have had a positive test for M genitalium.
Yes, apart from gonorrhea, I have been tested for all of those you have mentioned, all came back negative.
Bf is from the UK and yes it's not tested for routinely. My gyno in China has suggested that we take treatment together if he has it too.
He's seen a nurse at the STD clinic. Doctors have not even heard of M.G in the UK. However she can't really do anything for him other than giving him some antibiotics.
Should he take the meds only because I have it? I really think he should be tested for it as well.
Most STD experts and clinics do not yet routinely test for M genitalium, but it may be offered through some websites. Are you sure you were tested for M gen and not M hominis or other mycoplasma?
Lab testing alone isn't sufficient to learn the cause of increased vaginal discharge. Did you test on your own, or by a doctor or clinic? Were you also carefully examined by an experienced professional? If not, that should be your next step. The most common causes of increased vaginal discahrge are bacterial vaginosis, yeast, and trichomonas, none of which show up on routine tests done by most labs. And of course you should also be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, if not yet done.
M hominis and Ureaplasma testing can be disregarded. These are normal bacteria in the genital tract and don't need treatment.
If you really have had a positive PCR or similar test M genitalium, AND if you have been professionally examined, AND if gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas, yeast, and BV all have been ruled out, then it MIGHT be reasonable for you to be treated for M genietalium. This is something to discuss with your own doctor.
It takes a special pcr test and there is a risk for high false positives. This is a relatively recent bacteria discovery. I would talk to your doctor to confirm your findings.
I was also tested negative for Ureaplasma urealyticum (> 10^4)
Actually there's two MH in my test results. One I was tested for positive (Uu/Mh) , the other one negative.
Sorry my test results are in Chinese it's very difficult to translate it into English correctly. I'm not sure about the difference between MH and MG
That'll be great. Thanks a lot!
My boyfriend is British and I'm Asian. His doctors have not even heard of mycoplasma genitalium and said that there's no test that could be done in the UK, which doesn't make sense to me.
Hi,
I'm sure it's genitalium as I'm tested negative for hominis. So what does it mean?
No I didn't have a PCR
Surprisingly I don't have urethra infection. My vagina itches really bad sometimes. I also have small bumps down there as well.
If folks are normally not tested for it, how is he gonna take meds if he's actually got it in him?
Thanks!
Hi, Normally folks are not tested for this but if you were did they perform a PCR? Also its associated with a urethra infection. Also there are many strains of mycoplasma and some, like Mycoplasma hominis are natural to the body. So you need to be sure its genitalium.
I am going to have someone else look at this when they have time.
