Questions and worries about PID

I'm 18 and I was just diagnosed with PID.  My doctor thinks it might be Chlamydia, but I won't know that for about three weeks till the tests come back.  She gave me antibiotics and told me that if my symptoms significantly improve in 48 hours than I know that this is my problem.  But regardless of if my symptoms after 48 hours, what should I do? just wait for lab results? Do I need any sort of follow up?

I'm also wondering a couple more things... How long do you usually have PID before you get intense pain (I can hardly move at this point.  I'm extremely tender to touch, my lower stomach is sooo swollen too.  And the pap smear and swab were reallyy painful).  Did I have this for a long time if it got to be like this?  After I'm finished the antibiotics, how long will it take for this to be totally cleared up?  I am a full time dancer, and it is really important that I am able to dance as soon as I possibly can! (I have a performance next week :/ I don't want to have to miss it).  Is it ok to continue physical activities as soon as pain subsides?

lasly... How do I know if any damage was caused?  I've heard that people get damage that makes them infertile or very prone to ectopic pregnancy and chronic pelvic pain.  How can you tell if there is any damage, and what problems it will cause and how to fix it?

I just don't know what to do about any of this I'm so confused and shocked about all of this.  I've only been with one person EVER, and he told me I am the only person he's ever been with.  I don't know how this can be possible...

The best people get involved with the worst sometimes. They put the wool over our eyes and then leave us wondering how or why it happened.  If you are having this much pain, then the PID was getting pretty bad.  Your gyno could do an ultrasound to look for any scar tissue.  But really, the true test would be if you actively try to get pregnant. Fertility testing is expensive so they tell you to try first and if after a year or so you have no success, then seek fertility testing.  I would think if you don't have scarring, then your chances of having no permanent damage is good.

Only your gyno will know if damaged is caused by pid.
