SYPHILIS/HERPES Possible?

In April I received an erotic massage from a gay male. There was mutual masterbation and he fingered my anus as well. He ejaculated on my hand and I then stimulated myself while he fingered my anus. Approximately 14 days later the top of my penis near the glans got very itchy which lasted a few days, I also had anal itching. I saw my urologist who diagnosed an e.Coli UTI though a urine culture. Amoxicillin x1 week didn’t resolve symptoms so he put me on Cipro for a week. Symptoms improved and subsequent culture revealed no more UTI, also ruled out Chlamydia, Gonnoreah and Trich.
About week 3 I developed folliculitis on my thighs and forearms, pus filled boils at the hair follicles. About this time my eyes started feeling very gritty and kinda dry. At week 12 I developed a flat 1/2” weepy sore on underside of my penis. It was not really an ulcer and was very flat almost like a scrape. Also at week 10 my wife developed 2 cold sores on her bottom lip which cleared after about a week. I’m wondering, could these symptoms be syphilis or genital herpes? I realize testing is the only conclusive answer but just trying to get an idea. The folliculitis has mostly resolved but my eyes are still gritty. Thanks for any insight.

There is no risk from the massage or mutual masturbation or fingering. STDs are transmitted by oral, vaginal, or anal sex, or heavy, unclothed rubbing or grinding while unclothed.

Did your wife have the cold sores and perform oral sex on you? It's possible that you have genital herpes type 1 from her giving you oral sex.

As you said, the only way you'll know is to test.

Your gritty eyes are likely just a coincidence - allergies or something.

Thanks for the response. No, she didn’t do oral. I just thought it strange that she’d get 2 cold sores while I’m having these strange symptoms. Thank you again for the response.
If she's ever done oral, even without sores present, you could still get genital hsv1 from her, if you don't already have hsv1.

You should let a doctor see this sore. It could be any number of things, but only a doctor could tell you what it is.
Thanks! The sore healed up after less than a week. I just had my annual doctor appointment and she ordered a full STD panel for me. Thanks again for the insight!
Well, a syphilis sore wouldn't heal nearly that quickly. A herpes outbreak could.

Let us kow what the results say.
Will do!
Auntijesse, HSV 1/2 test were Negative. Would this be conclusive at 14 weeks??
Thanks again!!
You had no risk for herpes from the massage. The test is conclusive for that.

As far as determining whether or not the sore is herpes or not, maybe. Your test isn't type specific, so it's not as helpful, and the hsv1 IgG misses 30% of infections.

If you've never received oral sex, then it most likely isn't genital hsv1, as it is almost always transmitted by oral sex. If you've had partners more recently that involved vaginal or anal sex, it doesn't rule out hsv2.

The best thing you can do is get to a doc if the sore returns. Get it cultured and typed within 48 hours. If your regular doc isn't available, an urgent care doc can do it.

So it's good odds, but doesn't completely answer it. It's not from the massage encounter, though, for sure.
Thank you so much for your response! The blood  test did type specific for 1 and 2 with resulting values <.90 for each. At 14 weeks I’m hoping it’s pretty reliable. Thank you again!!
You're welcome.  I'm happy to hear it was type specific. As I said, the hsv1 test misses 30% of infections, so that's as good as it's going to get at 14 weeks.

If you get another sore, just get it cultured.
Thank you again for your feedback!! I truly appreciate it!
You're welcome. :)
