Am I safe Now?

OK< Here we go...I recieved unprotected oral sex that lasted abour 20 seconds and I pulled out in fear of an std.  Since then I have gone thru a battery of tests which have all been negative.   The last test for syphillis was "non-reactive" during the 12 weeks.  Do you think there is any reason for a 3rd syphillis test?

I know I made a mistake by not being protected.  I am just trying to do the responsible thing. I have read to much on the net about test and how the vdrl can be not to reliable in the early stages or late stages.  I know this would have been an early stage so I just wanted to no if the 2 non reactive results were enough to be conclusive...I respect your opinion and really appreciate your help.  I was just very scared also...Thanks again..

No, I never have.  I think the longest I've ever seen anyone take to show positive is about 5 weeks.

And I don't know that I've ever seen anyone test after less than a min of oral sex, or any sex, for that matter.

In all your experience, have you ever seen someone test positive after 9 to 11 weeks from having less than a min of inserive oral sex.   Sorry for the question and I know it sounds stupid.  And yes I have made an appt to speak with a counselor again..

Oh its close enough - really.  Since the HUGE majority of people would have tested positive by 6 weeks, this test, in the absence of symptoms, isn't even really necessary, ya know?

And really - I don't know when it happened.  I was going on your statement of 12 weeks.

Good luck,

OK doing a little research, I will clarify my answer.  It could, in theory, take up to 3 months to test positive, but greater than 90% will show positive at 6 weeks.

Given the facts that you had not even a min of oral sex, and that oral sex is lower risk for STD transmission, and that you have had no symptoms, you do not need a re-test.

You stated that "The last test for syphillis was "non-reactive" during the 12 weeks."  Does that mean you already tested at 12 weeks?  If you have, you are fine.  12 weeks is 3 months, which is 90 days.

It can take up to 90 days for symptoms to appear, but you should test positive on a test by 6 weeks.

Thanks for your response. Just another quick question, why would most web sites and cdc say it could take up to 90 days for this to show on test.  Could it be related to some other health conditions such as lupus or weaker immune system.  I am healthy so I assume all should be well after test in 12th week...Thanks Again

No, I see no reason to test again for anything.  Syphilis would have shown up by about the 6th week.

You really are fine.
