I am male, had unprotected vaginal sex with a female in April 2009.
In December 2010, I was diagnosed with Tinea Cruris (aka Jock Itch)
When viewing articles online, it mentioned this was a condition which
affect people with HIV.
I took rapid finger prick test in January 2011 - almost 20 months
after the unprotected sex.
This came back negative.
I thought best to check if I had caught any other STD's.
Went to GUM clinic (I live in UK) tested negatvie for all STD's including
HIV (I believe this would have been elisa test)
Now for the most worrying part. My wife has developed a red rash on her
face, the rash was on her cheeks and nose. It lasted about two weeks, and she also
had a sore throat. This developed about 4 weeks since we had sex.
I am petrified this is related to ARS.
I myself have since developed what I believe to be Oral Thrush. Major white
tounge, can scrape away and then comes back within hours.
I again went for another rapid finger prick test on Feb 22, which again came back negative.
The person testing me assured me this negative result was final and conclusive.
In the last 3 months, I have had every symptom imaginable, headaches,
neck ache, rash on knuckles, fungal infection, oral thrush, nausea, weight loss
The problem is, despite 3 negatve tests, I cannot get this out of my head because of the symptoms
both myself, and my wife have experienced.
I am living in my own personal hell, this is beginning to affect all aspects of my life.
My questions are:-
1. Having read about late seroconversion, is it possible that I am seroconverting
now.
2. Is it possible for my body not to be producing Antibodies after 22 months
prior to infection, therefore not being detected on Rapid Finger Prick Tests and Elisa.
3. Would you reccomend further testing, or testing using a different method (other than
testing for antibodies)
4. I have read results always trumps symptoms, would you apply that to my case?
