Tested for gonorrhea too soon?

Hello,

I had an unprotected sexual encounter on a Friday.  Two days later I noticed an itching feeling in my urethra with occasional pain.  Urinating was mostly non painful, but sometimes after urinating I felt pain.  I decided to get tested on Tuesday, 4 days after the unsafe act.  I was given a urine test, and on Saturday I received a call that my test results were negative.  However in the period of time since taking the test I feel my symptoms worsened and I am concerned I was tested too soon.  Is this a reasonable fear to have, or are my test results accurate?  Thanks
