I'm constantly tormented by thoughts of the possibility STD's. I need help.

Some time ago I had been very irresponsible by being with many people. I needed a visit to the doctor one time and fortunately whatever I may have contracted at the time was very curable. I continued to be irresponsible for a short time after until one particular interaction caused me to become more weary of being around anyone in such a manner indiscriminately. My questions are how long do viruses stay hidden (assuming something has been contracted) stay hidden within someone's system?

I Know what its like to get the easy way out. only thing you can do is forgive yourself from all that happen i had lot of worries about my past sex life still to this day i'm still trying to be safe i'm not saying its easy temptation is always out there i have changed but change did not happen over night. i gave up the easy life for my girlfriend. knowing how hard it was not telling her about my past most of all it will get better over time. so heads up keep your mind open for your wife too keep in mind we men have lot on are mind from past sex life to wanting more and more. can't hide anymore need to get help from couples therapy may cost few bucks but will help.
