White pimples with black dot on upper shaft of penis

Hey everyone,

I'm a sexually active male (22 years old). A year ago, I noticed something cyst like right below my urethra (not on the head of my penis, just below it). It was about the size of a pea, and I started getting kind of worried. It also had a black dot in the center. Visited several doctors; all said it was not an STD. I had it surgically removed by a dermatologist. She sent the cyst to the lab to be tested (procedure) and never called back (usually a good sign with doctors and such).

Now, not sure if that is relevant at all, but, here is the problem now. Right before I had that cyst removed, I started noticing a few white pimples looking things near the circumcision line (upper shaft of my penis). They are only visible when I stretch my penis out. It appears that on one of these small pimples, there is a black dot as well (might not be right on it, too small to tell). Unlike the cyst I had, these are basically flat (I can barely feel them when I touch them). There is no fluid, puss, or blood being exerted.

I had two doctors check this and they said it was normal; something about sweat/oil glands? I don't really remember.

I'm just worried and want another opinion. Thank you everyone.

Saw a doctor today. He said these are definitely not warts, and definitely not any type of STD for that matter.

He said they are ingrown hairs. Phew.

Thanks for all the help Grace.

Could it be an ingrown hair? And the black dot is the hair trying to grow out underneath?

Hi Grace,

I will give the dermatologist a call tomorrow to make sure. She was certain the pea size thing was a cyst, but had to send it to the lab due to protocol. Nonetheless, I will call tomorrow.

Do you mean a wart, as in HPV?

certainly next time you are at your doctor's, ask if they received a report from the dermatologist about your biopsy to see what it showed just to cover your bases.   I'm a fan of being an informed consumer and you can't be if you don't know for sure what test results are :)

the black dot can be a black head type pimple or even sometimes warts look that way too.

Hi Grace,

Thanks for the quick response. The only part that worried me was the black dot on them, which makes them look kind of..dirty (if that makes any sense). It may be that I don't wash down there often enough, and thoroughly enough.

Also, I'm not sure if the tests were STD related. The dermatologist simply kept the cyst on a small bottle, and send she would send it to the lab for testing. Not exactly sure what they were going to be testing for.

the pimples sound like pearly papules. they are completely normal. they might also be fordyce spots too which are also completely normal. You've been seen for them and were told they aren't std related so no real reason to suspect otherwise.

always err on the side of caution and if you don't hear back about test results, call and find out. assuming that they'd call you isn't always in your best interest. we get far too many folks here who make that assumption and get burned by doing so :(
