I am confident that those will be fine as well.
The problem with thinking of "probability" that it depends on so many factors; the unlikelihood that he is HIV+, that the virus can be present in pre-ejaculate, viral load and higher probability if the man ejaculates.... but in the end it's meaningless because a risk is a risk.
A risk which can always be avoided by a very simple step of using protection in the future and also spare yourself from a lot of anxiety!
Take Care!
PS 8 of the 10 came back negative- just waiting on the two HIV ones.
I understand that you would still be at risk, but wouldn't it make sense if they don't ejaculate that the risk is even less? Isn't it bodily fluids that transfer the virus?
Thank you for your response. I have learned a valuable lesson. I am so over the dating scene. I think I am over sex! Sad, but true.
Yes, you will have to follow up at the earliest at the 6-8 week mark. Visit the HIV Prevention Community for more reassurance and support but even though you did put yourself at risk the odds are overwhelming in your favor that everything will be fine. The vast majority of HIV experts and clinicians however, advise against an HIV DNA test due to a high number of false positives (about 3% I believe).
Whether or not a male ejaculates really does not change the level of risk if it is unprotected. Simply make sure that you are protected in the future and you will protect yourself greatly from the possibility of contracting an STD.
The HIV I did was the DNA type ( they tested me for the two types of HIV) - do I need to still do a follow up?
either way the only test you can take and expect conclusive results are chlamydia, gonorrhea and trick. you should do a follw up test at a doctors office for HSV blood- 3months post., HIV - 3 months post and syphilis Blood- 6-8 weeks
