small papules have me scared

I am sexually active male and have had unprotected sex with five female partners over the past year.

I know that's insane behaviour.  :-(

A few weeks ago I discovered a dark patch on the shaft of my penis.  When I looked very closely I saw about 10 to 15 tiny pinkish purplish papules.  They are different sizes, from a tiny one, the size, say, this asterisk * to larger ones about the size of this letter: o.   They are roundish, mostly clustered together with a few outliers.

I tried the vinegar test - putting white vinegar on the area for 5-10 minutes to see if they changed white, as i have read that genital warts would do.   They did not turn white.

My temperature is normal.  I have no discomfort urinating.

I went to a urologist who said they do not look like warts or herpes, and he prescribed some myocin? ointment, which is an anti-fungal with steroid.   But he doesn't know what it is, which makes me anxious.

I feel terribly scared and guilty and horrible.

Can anyone tell me what it might be?

Hi there -

If a doctor who examines you can't identify it, I know I can't over the internet.

However, it doesn't sound like herpes, and it doesn't sound like warts.  The vinegar test is not reliable, by the way, but it doesn't matter here, because it doesn't sound like warts.

I would try the antifungal cream and see if that helps.  If you don't see a big improvement in a week, then follow up with your doctor.

frankgan here again.  I've now had a biopsy on the area and diagnozed these spots as the "bad" kind of hpv.   The kind that is associated with cervical cancer.  I am scheduled for a dermatologic surgery to remove the spots.  I've told my wife about it and that I've had unprotected sex.

She is devastated.  I am concerned for her health and mine.  And I may lose my marriage.

I am deeply ashamed and depressed.

The "bad" kind of HPV rarely causes warts.  Do you know what strain it is?

As for your wife, just make sure she gets her pap smears regularly, and she will be fine.

Good luck with the rest - I'm sure its hard.
