Thank you very much for your input!
You should not rush out and get tested right now. The blood tests for Syphilis and HSV won't show a recent infection. You should watch for symptoms. If nothing shows up in a few weeks- you are in pretty good shape. Then you can get tested-in 6-8 weeks. If you can afford it you could ge the full test just to put your mind at ease. Also, you should be aware that you might get a positive HSV1 test- becasue you may have had cold sores- that does not mean your recent sexual activity caused the positive test.
Hi Grace,
Thank you for your prompt response.. I think I will get tested just for a peace of mind. I noticed that there are many tests you can do.. so should I only perform the tests for the 3 diseases you mentioned above? Should I get tested for HIV too? I ask because there is additional charge for each test...
this isn't the doctor's forum - you have to pay to post there.
protected sex is a risk for hpv, herpes and syphilis. The risk of each from a one time protected encounter is incredibly low. we don't recommend routine testing unless you have a regular partner to protect.
