Very worried and confused between IgG and IgM

Somewhat confused here, and still worried.

Here is a quick overview: About a year back, I feared I had oral herpes. The original symptoms were itching, redness, then blisters etc. After about 2 days after noticing this, I visited the dermatologist who deemed it herpes without a viral culture or blood test. I was prescribed Valtrex and took it for a few days. After about a month and half went by, I had a smaller outbreak again in the same region and visited the doctor once again. This time, a swab was taken from the almost closed sore. In addition, a blood test was taken.

The doctor ran a HSV 1/2 type specific IgG (HerpeSelect), ELISA blood test.

The culture results were negative, as well as both IgG’s which were <0.90. The doctor then deemed my symptoms as some sort of bacterial infection (I forgot the name) and I was given bactroban to apply to my nose area.
Fast forward to about a week ago, and I started to think about everything again. I made another appointment with a doctor to have a full blood panel to make sure of the original results.
The doctor called today, and told me they ran both an IgG and an IgM. He explained I came back negative for the IgG test, and that the IgM results had not come in yet. In addition, he explained that the IgG only detects a recent infection, whereas the IgM detects a previous infection.

I am now really worried and paranoid again fearing the IgM will come back positive. I was looking up the IgM and IgG tests and am very confused as what they each do. Maybe I confused which test results came back (IgG or IgM).

In the meantime, I wanted to know, assuming I have not come into contact with anyone with herpes in the past year, and my previous IgG and current IgG(or was it IgM?)  came back negative does that mean I should be negative to herpes once the IgM comes in or is it all yet to be determined till my IgM results come in?

Concerned -

You need to start your own thread, but what are you concerned about exactly?  If you are getting treatment for it, you will be fine.

Make sure your partners all get tested and treated so you won't be re-infected.

Check out the health topics here (click on the icon on the top of the page) and read up on chlamydia.  You can also visit ashastd.org for some good info.

There really isn't a battle here.  You just take the meds, and use condoms from now on.

Disregard the IgM totally.  It should have never been drawn on you, as its not at all accurate in adults.  It should only be drawn on newborns.

Your IgG test indicates that you do not have an established infection of hsv.  The IgG looks for "older" antibodies, and you don't have those.

I don't know what bacterial infection he thought you had - impetigo maybe? - but you don't have herpes.
