Azithromycin Dosage Question

I went in with symptoms of Chlamydia and tested negative, while still maintaining the symptoms. Doctor gave me 6 250 MG tablets, and said that i should take 2 the first day of treatment and then 1 each of the following days. Upon reading up on websites and what not, it says usually to just have a single 1 gram dose. What is the proper treatment?
