Can someone help determine what type of STD I have?

I was exposed to an STD 6 months ago and developed urethritis/epididymitis at first and then developed prostatitis.  All std tests and urinalysis have come back negative and I've tried the following antibiotics/therapy:

May 2011

GP - all std tests came back negative and urine was "clear" of bacteria.  No abnormal WBC or RBC's.

Diagnosed with epididymitis and urethritis – clear discharge and testicular pain (unilateral pain on left testicle).

250mg rocephin
100mg Doxycycline 2x day for 14 days

Then another

100mg doxycycline 2x day for 7 days

Did not clear up completely so went to Urologist

June
500mg cipro 2x day 21 days (28 day script)
10mg uroxatral 1x day

Me
Also took 500mg vitamin c 2x day
Saw palmetto 2xday 160mg 2x day
Fish oil 1200mg 360mg omega 3 2x day

July

Septra ds 800mg 2x day for 9 days (21 day script)
10mg uroxatral 1x day

Me
Cranberry extract 450mg (250mg vitamin c) 2x day

July/August/September

Doxycycline 100mg 2x day for 10 weeks (since I had the most success with doxy)
10mg uroxatral 1x day

October

2g flagyl plus 1g azithromycin

Urocit-k 1600mg 2x day (urine pH was 5)
8mg rapaflo

Currently on 8mg of rapaflo 1x day and about to start ofloxacin 500mg 2x day for 28 days.

Overview

Exposed to STD in early May and had subsequent clear discharge and urethra pain which spread to testicles and prostrate.

Still having symptoms of urethral, testicular and prostate pain after 6 months of therapy.  Difficult urination at night (2-3 times)

Had testicular ultrasound showing no abnormalities.  DRE’s have shown enlarged, boggy prostrate.  No urethral swab done or prostatic fluid analysis.

Do I have some type of antibiotic resistant bacterial infection?  did the supplements taken early on interfere with antibiotic treatment by irritating symptoms?  Prostrate penetrating antibiotics not taken long enough?

Please help.

I don't know if what follows will help you, but I have had a similar problem to you. Last year, I got an STD after I picked up a girl at the bar and the condom broke. I went to my doctor after I started feeling a little "peculiar" and he prescribed me 7 days of doxycycline, which seemed to help, but didn't solve the problem. I started getting a clear discharge so I went back and the doctor had me tested for STDs. I was negative. He then told me it was probably stress. Being unaware of the actual problem, I took his advice. That was a mistake. My problems continued and I developed prostatitis, which then lead to epididymitis and urethritis. I also had a "weird" break out and fever. This was about 4 months of trying to deal with the "stress". I feel like such an idiot for not getting a second opinion.

I also had no idea what was causing the problem. Although, it was definitely an infection. I'm assuming it was some sort of bacteria, but apparently it was not an STD causing the problem. This still baffles me.

Anyways, when I got the epididymitis and urethritis, I went and saw a new doctor who prescribed ciproflaxin for 14 days. This helped with the epididymitis and urethritis. No more weird break outs or fever. Although I was still dealing with the prostatitis. I went back and was given doxycycline for 14 days. During this time, I was also taking very hot baths and supplements (probiotics, oil of oregano, elderberry and olive leaf extract) twice a day to fight the infection.

My problems seem to continue, but not as bad, and I was sent to a urologist who also told me I had a boggy prostate and gave me Rapaflo (silodosin). I took this for two weeks when one day I had an alcoholic beverage. After drinking it, I got up to go to the bathroom and saw a stone come out with my urine. A week after that I had a transrectal ultrasound, which was scheduled before I passed the stone. The urologist confirmed that I had prostatitis, but to be quite honest I haven't had any problems with my prostate since. Apparently, bacteria leach calcium to grow and that's probably where the stone came from.

Recently, I've been plagued with epididymitis again. I got inflammation, nauseous, feverish and felt rundown. No weird break outs tho.

Why it came back is beyond me as I've been with the same girl for a while, and for lack of a better term, she is "clean". Anyways, I was given cipro for 7 days, which helped but didn't get rid of it. I went back and was given another 7 days. It also helped, but I still have pain in my epididymis. It's just not the same pain. Now it's just inflammation. I don't feel nauseous, feverish or rundown like before.

I recently saw my urologist and he had my urine tested for bacteria and the results, which  came back days ago, were negative. I'm assuming there's been some damage to my epididymis. I'm hoping it will heal in time. I'm also hoping it's not chronic epididymitis (without infection), but it could very well be. Time will tell.

I still have to go back and see my urologist in month, the earliest I could get an appointment. So hopefully I can report something then.

What gets me is why it came back. I've been trying to be observant when the pain comes. Or should I say, "gets harsher" as I always feel it, but some times the pain gets worse. I've also noticed flare ups when I strain myself, such as heavy lifting.

I'm now wondering if there are calcified remains in my vas defrens that may be playing a role or an inguinal hernia. Either one could be causing problems, but I really don't know. I'm mentioning this for two reasons.

First, because I'm now looking at all possible causes of epididymitis and trying to rule them out. I'm basically trying to learn as much as I can about what's going on in my body and give my doctor the biofeedback he needs to make the best decisions for my health.

Secondly, I think everyone should do the same. Take an active interest. Don't just rely on the doctor and the medication. Be part of the solution and learn as much as you can.

That being said, I'll get off my soap box, and report back when/if anything changes. Like I said in the beginning, I'm not sure if my story helps you. But if it doesn't, maybe it will help someone else.

thanks for your reply.

I tried rapaflo as well but it caused bladder pain and gave me retrograde ejac.  I would just suggest to take at least 4 weeks of any antiobiotic maybe even 6 weeks.  They all seem to help a little but when I get off of them the pain/issues return.  I just don't think I've found the right one yet since I haven't had the proper tests done.

Just as an update I just finished 4 weeks of levaquin which helped with both the pain and urination but issues are still there.  I'm now on 7 days of tindamax (1g/day).  If this doesn't help I'm going to either lay off the antibiotics to see what happens and get some tests done (PCR and standard STDs but have to be antibiotic free for 4 weeks) or go for 3-4 weeks of zithro.

It appears you have been under a lot of care with Dr's. At this point I would suggest to continue to follow up with them. My knowledge is going to pale in compairson and I could only recommend seeing a Dr.
