HPV/HSVII? very worried

I just found this forum and have been browsing several topics and have not found any similar topics or answers to what I am inquiring about

I recently went to my doc due to bleeding during bowel movements
This has been occuring for several years on and off but until recently it started happening more frequently. On top of that since I could remember I had blood when I wiped myself but again recently it seems like the blood is thicker now when i wipe.
I did research and thought it was either hemroids (sp?) or anal fissures.

Well my doctor checked me out and as a precaution is sending me out for a biopsy or something like it to rule out cancer (can't recall the name of the proceure). The thing that was completely unexpected was that he was concerned about lacerations in my anus. He believes they are related to HSVII

The two that he is most concerned about is one on top of my anus at about 12 oclock if standing and one at six o clock. It looks like a cut in the middle surrounded by white ulcers (not sure how to describe it). My doctors exact words were, "These ulcers may be caused by HSV II but we can't be sure" "At this point we are going to treat it as herpes and will follow up in ten days" The doc put me on Valtrex. Now during one bowel movement back in Feb or Mar I remember checking my anus in the mirror and noticed these two "ulcers" again I figured they were fissures.

Well naturally now I am completely freaked out. I have been reading up on this and the symptoms. I experience itching infrequently but when there is itching it is somewhat intense. I wash myself with hot water and it makes it feel better.I have also noticed but have ignored it after sex or masterbation the tip of my penis gets red which usually goes away after a few days. When this happens I have mild itching. I also discovered a small grayish pimple on the groin.

Because the warts have not healed I am completely freaking out that I may have HIV.

It has been about 5 days of taking the Valtrex and the bleeding is still there but it is definitely improved.

I am a 26 year old man, I am straight and have never had anal sex. I am currently married and as far as I know she has been faithful.
I have had sex with 2 other comitted partners,  one one night stand with a condom, I received a hand job from a stripper who I am pretty sure stip on my penis for lubrication, and protected sex with an escort.

I would grealy appreciate any advice or information

Thank You

They usually don't test for herpes as part of routine std testing during pregnancy. She can call her doctor and find out if she was tested then or not.

Grace,

Again thank you. I am being tested for herpes with a blood test.

This is definitely a hard thing to deal with. I never really started having these problems till I met her. Knowing how it is she will likely lose it and blame it on me. We had a child two years ago and the doc never advised of any risks. He even tested her for HIV and STD's and she was clean. I except to get the results in the next few days.

Well thank you so much again

Jason

Just not getting a wart while being in a long term monogamous relationship would be unusual. definitely get it looked at - it might just be a normal mole ( or a mole that needs looking at because it's not so normal ).

I think your doctor is just trying to make you feel better :(  I won't sugar coat it like he evidently is trying to do. If you have hsv2 - chances are good that you've had it for awhile now from the sounds of your story.  If it's the cause of your anal bleeding over the years then this isn't your first ob and it won't likely be your last.

You still didn't say how they are testing you for herpes. Also your wife is going to need to be tested too so that the two of you know if you need to be concerned about precautions or not.

Anal fissures can be from many things.  Finding out if herpes might be the cause is an easy first step.

Grace,

Thank you so much for your response, I greatly appreciate it.

The wart I think I have is in my groin area. It is very small grayish pimple

As far as the lesions are concerned I only have two. One at the 12 oclock postion and one at the 6 oclock postion (when standing).

Is it likely that I will one day have an outbreak on my penis? The doctor was telling me that once we clear this up it is likely I may never have another outbreak.

Could it still be anal fissures or does it seem clear it is HSV or HPV? Thank you again Grace

How are you getting tested for herpes? Did they do a lesion culture of the suspicious areas around your anus? How about a type specific herpes igg blood test?

You don't have to have anal sex in order to get herpes lesions in the anal area.  When you are infected with the virus - it travels up thru the nerve ganglia and settles itself in the nerve group that supplies the entire anogenital area.  When the virus periodically reactivates, it can go down any of those nerve pathways and cause lesions at the end of them ( actually cause lesions anywhere in what we call the "boxer short" area - or anywhere a normal pair of boxers would cover ).  You can have lesions anywhere in that area.

I'm not sure where the warts come in?  You mentioned them once but I don't see where you mentioned that you have them.

Your risk of hiv is rather low since you don't mention using iv drugs and say you are heterosexual.  I think it's normal to freak that you might have it but the chances are rather low of it happening.  Don't hesitate to get a hiv test though if you need the peace of mind!
