Is this a risk for STD'S?

Good evening,

I am preparing myself to educate my daughter about STD'S and i am not sure i have all the answers and info. I would like to ask a few questions and i appreciate your answers.

1: Which stds can be transmitted only if there is direct and full sexual contact such as vaginal and anal sex?

2: Which stds can be transmitted even if there is no full sexual contact vaginal and anal sex?

3: Can any std be transmitted with oral sex, protected and unprotected?

4: Can the receiver or giver of finger stimulation (vaginal and anal) get any std?

5: Can any std be transmitted if an infected person touches a not infected person with "non sexual body parts" such as feet, thighs, hands, fingers?

6: Can any std be transmitted by giving or receiving a nude body massage?

7: What kind of body contact needs to happen for an std to be transmitted? Is it enough for someone to be infected with an std to pass it or does that person need to show symptoms or physical sores etc?

I hope some you are experienced with this and can help me. god bless

Hello

Thanks for doing this for your daughter on behalf of all young people out there.

1: Which stds can be transmitted only if there is direct and full sexual contact such as vaginal and anal sex?

If we assume its unprotected (meaning no condom is worn); then this is a risky
behavior for HIV, chalmydia, gonorrhea, and realted NGU, syphilis, gential herpes,
HPV (the virus that may cause genital warts), hep B.    Anal sex increases all these
STDs dramatically, because there is tearing of skin and more possibility of blood.
Not every unprotected sex act leads to infection, but there IS a high risk for them.

2: Which stds can be transmitted even if there is no full sexual contact vaginal and anal sex?
      These are called ulcerative STDs, meanding that no penetrative sex is required per se;
just genital to gential contact --it further means that contact with the shedding
virus/bacteria is all that is needed for possible infection.   These are: syphilis, genital
herpes, and HPV.   Though may websites call these "skin to skin" contact that is a
misnomer because its druing sex that the genital are comming together.  People think
that if they touch a herpes lesion with their finger/hand they will get hereps on their
hand.  This is rare.   Its usually a genital to genital contact that will lead to infection of
      the genital area.
We've seen that the people getting these stds are those who are having unprotected
sex.   Condoms help with these STDs, but its not 100%.

3: Can any std be transmitted with oral sex, protected and unprotected?

Yes, if a person is infected with oral gonorrhea, they can pass on their oral gono to
the person they are performing oral sex --to give them genital gonorrhea.
    Usally men can get NGU
sometimes called "non-chlamydia" NGU from recieving unprotected sex.  Its the normal
flora of the mouth that is not so friendly bacterial in the urethra --this causes infection.
Both these STDs are low risk encounters for oral sex assuming unprotected.
Finally, a person with oral herpes (with an active outbreak) can give the person receiving
oral sex ---what is called  HSV-1 genitally (again assuming unprotected oral sex).
Protected oral sex is pretty much safe for the 3 STDs just discussed.

4: Can the receiver or giver of finger stimulation (vaginal and anal) get any std?
Absolutely NOT.   You have to have sex to get most STDs

5: Can any std be transmitted if an infected person touches a not infected person with "non sexual body parts" such as feet, thighs, hands, fingers?
Absolutely NOT.   You have to have sex to get most STDs

6: Can any std be transmitted by giving or receiving a nude body massage?
Absolutely NOT.   You have to have sex to get most STDs

7: What kind of body contact needs to happen for an std to be transmitted? Is it enough for someone to be infected with an std to pass it or does that person need to show symptoms or physical sores etc?

See question 2 on ulcerative STDs.
If someone has HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, Hep B, the type of body contact that leads
to infection is penetrative/insertive unprotected vaginal/anal sex.
if someone has herpes, syphilis, HPV with known lesion/abrasion or lump or bump, the
chance of infection increases drastically.   Again for these ucerative STDs, NO
penetrative sex is needed, but exposure to the shedding virus or bacteria.  This usually
    happens during sex.

So the bottom line is that there most be direct skin to skin contact with the infected area to get infected, is that it?

And if there is direct skin to skin contact with an infected area, does that mean that the other person is 100% to get the std?

Hello again,

"For example: a guy has herpes but no outbreak and touches/snuggles with his girlfriend naked can she get it? Or, a girl has HPV but no outbreak, can she pass it to another person?"

With no outbreaks and you are describing SNUGGLING, you can NOT get an STD this way.   Most people get HPV sometime in their life time by sex (there are many strains of HPV --so not all of them cause genital warts) again it will be really hard to get HPV from snuggling naked.

"1: Can std's outbreaks be on body parts other than the genitals or are they only occurring on genitals? most important is CAN ONE HAVE AN STD ON THEIR HANDS/FINGERS?"

STD outbreaks are usually on the genitals and around them.
Yes, I think I've seen reported cases of herpes on the hands (it is rare though you shouldn't worry about this).  You can also get herpes on your eyes (that's also rare).

"2: if a person has an std outbreak on/around the genitals, can they pass it on without direct contact with the outbreak?"
NO.

Thank you Jessy, Grace and kdaily.

There needs to be direct contact of an infected area to transmit STD's, or is it enough a person has an std / std outbreak to transmit it to another person?

For example: a guy has herpes but no outbreak and touches/snuggles with his girlfriend naked can she get it? Or, a girl has HPV but no outbreak, can she pass it to another person?

ANOTHER QUESTION,

1: Can std's outbreaks be on body parts other than the genitals or are they only occurring on genitals? most important is CAN ONE HAVE AN STD ON THEIR HANDS/FINGERS?

2: if a person has an std outbreak on/around the genitals, can they pass it on without direct contact with the outbreak?

THANKS

Not sure of the age of your child but www.iwannaknow.org is a well done website run by ashastd.org aimed specifically at teenagers. it covers info on all std's, how to prevent them, how to test for them etc.  It also covers basic info like how to properly use a condom ( the condom goes on when the clothing comes off, not just wait for actual penetration to apply it ) as well as birth control. It might be a good resource for after your "talk" to give to your child so that they can follow up with any questions on their own too ( especially if it gets too overwhelming for them to be having this discussion with a parent at any point ).

Just remember when you are talking to your child, just start with the basics and remind yourself that this is an ongoing discussion between you that hopefully lets them know that they can come to you with questions and for help when they are ready to be sexually active :)    I'm sure you'll find lots of opportunities to continue your discussion in more depth - amazing what you see on t.v news and t.v shows that can give you a reason to bring up the topic again to go further into things!

1- these are low risk genital to genital and is considered to be too low of a  risk to worry/test for. Hand to genital is not a risk unless someone has syphilis or HSV sores on their hand which is extremely rare.

2 there is always a low risk for hand to genital BUT because the skin on your hand is thicker then your genitals the risk is way to low to consider a risk. it is extremely rare as I indicated above to contract HSV or syphilis or HPV in this manner so rare it isn't a risk

3. My understanding from your question 6 is the massage is hands only if this is the case there is no risk what so ever.

4. snugging is way way wya toooooo loooowwww of a risk to worry about although if you are naked and the person you're snuggling with has an open sore there is a chance of transmition. I've already answered the fingering.

Good morning Jessy,

wow, your reply is simply awesome! Thanks a mil for your time.

I have a few questions,

"2: Which stds can be transmitted even if there is no full sexual contact vaginal and anal sex?

      the genital area.
We've seen that the people getting these stds are those who are having unprotected"

My question is: in order to get infected with any of the above std's there must be GENITAL TO GENITAL contact, or is genital to hand also risky (skin to skin=anyskin)?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

4: Can the receiver or giver of finger stimulation (vaginal and anal) get any std?
Absolutely NOT.   You have to have sex to get most STDs

My question is: Isn't this considered "skin to skin" contact? What about herpes and genital warts? What if a male std carrier inserts his finger in her vagina? how about a female std carrier inserting her finger/s into his anus?

can an std actually be on a finger/hand? or just at the genital area?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6: Can any std be transmitted by giving or receiving a nude body massage?
Absolutely NOT.   You have to have sex to get most STDs

My question is: is at a Absolutely NOT even if there is an open wound/pimple on the massage giver or receiver?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7: What kind of body contact needs to happen for an std to be transmitted? Is it enough for someone to be infected with an std to pass it or does that person need to show symptoms or physical sores etc?

See question 2 on ulcerative STDs.

My question is: "Again for these ucerative STDs, NO penetrative sex is needed, but exposure to the shedding virus or bacteria. - can that happen with just snuggling (dressed/naked), fingering etc?

I don't have enough words to thank you, this will sure help many teens or parents looking for information to educate their kids. god bless
