I don't think it's an STD. I'm not a doctor, but I've never had sex & am not sexually active -so, it must be something else, some more sneaky kind of infection or something... I itch mercilessly and my mom says she has the same.. I don't know what to do.. I've changed soaps & wash well, but no matter what -there's that itch.

I said there doesn't have to be discharge.

go see a doctor - trying to put up with this for 6 months is far too long. it's time to be seen and find out what is going on and get treated for it.

An itch that drives you insane is likely to be bv ( bacterial vaginosis ). It's very common and doesn't always also have gobs of icky vaginal discharge with it.  If this has been there for 6 months - it might take quite a bit to get it gone for good and to break the itch cycle so don't hesitate to keep returning to your doctor for follow up if symptoms come back.

First and foremost you need to go get tested for STD's. You could have an STD or an infection going on. Itcheness and a mild odor is not good. I had Chlaymidia and Gonereaha two years ago. I had a mild itchness and slight bleeding. If you have these two diseases you will be treated with antibiotics. The two STD's went away within a week a treatment and I felt alot better. However, the itchiness returned for me like a month ago. I went to the doctor and I had a yeast infection. My point is you should definately get tested and see whats going on immediately.
