Meds ?

Did go to doctor the other day for some treatment of a possible exposure. NO symptoms as of now (2 weeks after encounter) I was given four 500mg tablets of cipro to be taken all at once, and then place on a fourteen day regimen of Erthyrocin at four 500mg tablets per day. DID NOT AGREE W/ MY STOMACH! Not sure if it was just the overload of 2000mg of Cipro all at once combined with 2000mg of Erthyrocin given throughout day or what. Went to back to Dr. yesterday morning and she gave me two 500mg of Azirthomycin to be taken all at once. She said this would take care of any possible chlamydia and chancroid. She assured me the Cipro would take care of the gonorrhea if I would happen to have it.   My stomach feels much better but still a little nausea and some loose stool.

Does any of this sound correct as far as side effects and dosages?
Thanks for your help on this sensitive matter.

That's a LOT of antibiotics.

Did you have a KNOWN exposure, or just unprotected sex?  Did they test you for anything, or just hand you some meds?

You also got double some doses, quadruple for others, and some for double the length of time.  The eyrthomycin only needed to be 7 days, and the cipro needed to be 500 mg once.

The cipro would probably take care of gonorrhea, though some are resistant to it.  The eyrthomycin would work for chlamydia, the azithromycin would work for chlamydia and chancroid.

I don't know where you live, but chancroid is very rare in the US.  If you had a KNOWN exposure to something, you should have been treated only for the std you were exposed to.  If none of your partners had tested positive for anything, you were given far too many meds for infections you probably didn't have in the first place, and that's how things become resistant to antibiotics.

Unless you test positive for something, or develop symptoms, you do not need any more antibiotics.  You might well get a fungal infection from the antibiotics.  If that happens, follow up with your doc.
