NSU followed by Reactive Arthritis

Hi,

I am a male, and had unprotected oral sex several months ago with a female CSW (her on me). A week after the event, I was diagnosed with NSU after a urethral swab showed pus cells. I was prescribed a single dose of Azithromycin. My urine tests, which were taken at the time showed no evidence of infection. I have since developed lots of symptoms which tie in with Reactive Arthritis: Painful joints esp ankles and wrists, burning on urination, painful eyes, lower back pain at night.

My question is... If red pus cells are present, will a urine test for chlamydia and other bacterial infections always be positive, or, since I only had the test a week after potential exposure, the bacteria may not have multiplied enough to be detected in the urine but may still affect the urethra as pus cells? I subsequently tested negative for all other bacterial infections at 12 weeks after exposure. Although this doesn't rule out the fact that I may have had a chlamydia infection initially, but was cured by the Azithromycin.

Thank you.

Hi again. The incident was 200 days ago, so believe ReA would have adequate time to develop. My symptoms tie in exactly with the typical symptoms of ReA - painful joints - heel, knee, hips and lower back; painful urination (burning) and eye pain. All of the symptoms come and go and the painful joints alternate between sides and joints. Th eonly think I don't have is swelling anywhere. Although I regularly wake up with slight swelling in my fingers. And ALWAYS wake up with lower back pain. Am I creating all of these symptoms due to the stress of thinking I have ReA!? Thanks again for your responses.

RA would be not common to get and takes a while to develop.

Thanks for the prompt reply, and the previous correspondence I received from you a few months back. As you can see, I still have health worries which flare up every few weeks but not constant. Isn't RA something that lingers after a bacterial infection, which takes a long time to go away? I've had lots of blood tests which have come up with nothing, although there is no specific bllod test for RA?

If you were cured from chlamydia (don't think you had anyway) then RA would not be an issue.
