Rather worried...

by t0ri111, Jul 29, 2007 03:32AM
I'm female, 19 years old, and have been experiencing symptoms that I'm pretty worried may be an STD. I've had two sexual partners, and the first was unprotected.

For the past few months I've had much more discharge than normal lately, noticed an odor down stairs, and have had fairly bad itching. (Although, I am on an antibiotic which may cause vaginal itching.) There are no visual symptoms, but I'm worried enough by the symptoms I have. So my question is if anyone has experienced these issues as well, and what they found the cause to be, or possibly be? I'm going to get tested and make sure everything is fine next week, but was just curious about other's opinions or experiences.

Thanks!

You are already on an antibiotic?   Is that for something else, or for the discharge?  What is it and when did you start taking it?

It is Minocycline for mild acne. I've been on it for about a year but have just noticed these symptoms for the past 4 months or so...

Being on antibiotics raises your risk for yeast infections, I'd probably begin to suspect that first.  Especially because the antibiotics would not affect the yeast.

You could try the Affirm VPIII which tests for Candida species, Gardnerella vaginalis, and Trichomonas in one test.  It's better for diagnosis than culture.
