Smear test ?

Hi there!
I hope im posting this in the right forum!
Its just a quick question!...
Ive been with my partner for so many months, but would like to have a STD test in general, if im clean, does that mean he is too?
and also....(example) if youve only been sleeping with the person for 2 weeks and have a test and it comes back clear, does that mean he is clean too or is there a chance that if hes got anything, he just hasnt passed it to you yet?
many thanks

That could be a bladder infection.  You should call now to make an appt for when you are off your period.

Hope you feel better.

I have one more question though (sorry)
This is somthing different now.... i think ive got somthing, but am not to sure yet, as i havnt been tested and im on a very long period, which is incredibly annoying! but i was wondering if this came under any of the STD's ?! but im having uncomfortable pains in my bladder (im sure thats where it is) It doesnt burn when i pee and i dont have any type of discharge nothing like that! but once ive finished going, i have a funny tingle! but the last couple of days, ive been having it in general! could this just be a water/urine infection or is this sympton realated to any of the STD's! x

Hi there -

I found a great link explaining the pap smear - http://www.lifespan.org/adam/healthillustratedencyclopedia/1/003911.html  General guidelines are that you should have a pap smear within the first few years of being sexually active.

The testing for stds is similiar to that of a pap.  You will either pee in a cup, or have samples taken from the inside of your vagina.  It all might be uncomfortable for a few minutes, but its not anything severe.  Its not worse than a moderate period cramp, and only lasts a couple of min.

You and your bf should both be tested.

Good luck!

i dont know how this would help you. In men, the smear test is done by inserting a small plastic piece into your penis(just a little ) and smearing the walls and getting some sorta paste like thing from the walls and then running some test on it.

Maybe AJ can tell you what all is tested using that.

Hi there -

Yes, girls can get herpes and syphilis too.

Have you ever had a pap smear done?  It will feel very similiar to that.

It doesn't check for HIV, but you can have a simple test - either oral or blood - to determine if you have that.

How long the results take depend entirely on the lab and your doc.

Sorry to ask a dumb question, because im not to sure on either of them, but can girls get herpes and syphilis too :-S
and could you tel me if you know, what exactly happends in a smear test, as im a bit nervous and do you know how long before the results come back and does it check you for aids too? x

Relying on your test results to show if your partner has anything isn't terribly reliable.  Not everything is a guaranteed transmission.

For example, he could have herpes, and you might not.  He could also have syphilis, and you might not.

Its a good idea for you both to be tested.
