Treatment of STD before diagnosis

Hi Dr,

Yesterday night I received brief unprotected oral sex from someone I suspect could potentially be infected with STD. Call me stupid but at the time I did not know that STD could be transmitted that way. Anyway, this morning I did research and found out I was wrong. Then I panicked and ran to the nearest pharmacy and and took 1g of Zithromax, 400mg of Cefixime and 2x500g of Ciprofloxacin. I am planning to take additionally 500mg of Ciprofloxacin 2x daily.

My questions are now 1) Are these treatments effective so soon after potential exposure or do I have to wait and see if I get symptoms and then repeat the treatment? 2) Will these treatments generally cure Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Syphills or do I need others?

Many thanks,

No I am not going to advise you on what to take to cure syphilis. It was be irresponsible to do so. You don't treat without diagnosis.

Hi Vance,

Thanks a lot for your input. Could you please advice my of which treatments cure syphillis?

Everyone,
Does anyone else have an opinion on whether treatments are effective after only 12 hours after infection?

Thanks a lot,

Never self medicate...side effects could be worse then possible diagnosis.
1) They could be effective
2) Gonorrhea-probably, chlymida-not a concern with oral sex, syphilis will not be cured with what you took.

What you have to do is wait for symptoms or testing times and get tested.
Gonorrhea-1 week
Syphilis-6 weeks
